Meet the Photographer: Mark Hamilton

Photography has always been a big part of my life. Growing up my family took and displayed photos of special moments and daily life, from professional portraits to personal family photos of washing the car to learning to ride a bike, and more.
At the time, I didn't understand the value of those photos, but as I've grown I come to understand what my parents and grandparents were doing - they were capturing and preserving our family's legacy, special moments and memories to be enjoyed over and over again. Pursuing my passion for photography, I photograph my family with the same dedication and tenacity my parents and grandparents did. I find joy and take pride in capturing the seemingly mundane and daily moments of life, as well as the special moments like riding a bike without training wheels the first time. As a kid I hated having my picture taken; now I enjoy it, and I even take my own self-portrait (not selfie) every so often. Like me, you may not be entirely comfortable in front of the camera, but when I look back and see all the captured memories and wonderful moments I'd forgotten about it makes being in the photo worth it every time. My hope is that you feel the same way. Our memories and moments are meant to be captured, preserved, and shared. I would be honored to capture your special moments, preserving them to share with your family and friends. When I'm not busying with photography, my time is spent enjoying life and making memories with my family, enjoying a cup (or twelve) of coffee, expanding my knowledge of business, and coaching gymnastics. |

I am honored that you stopped by. Like our world, life is always in motion, and I have been passionately working to capture life's special moments for more than 10-years. What started off as a passion and desire to capture the world around me, quickly transformed into documenting family life with the birth of my son. Documentary family photography is a way to creatively capture life's moments, from those special one of kind memories to the seemingly mundane moments of daily life. For me, documenting life is not limited to people, but includes the world around me. Over the years, I have found beauty in the natural world around me. Exploring these often overlooked and common sights has helped me to appreciate the true beauty and wonders of the world we live in. GuruShots is an online photography game, or as they call it "The world's greatest photography game!" With a wide range challenges opening and closing daily, submissions are voted on by photographers of all levels, backgrounds, and locations, giving users an amazing amount of feedback on their photography. While GuruShots isn't a "learning site" it does offer an amazing amount of inspiration and learning material.
Since joining Mark's photography has earned numerous awards from his peers.

A Different Approach: Balancing Digital and Printed Photography
Today we are more "connected" than ever before. Between our mobile devices and social media, we can share almost anything instantaneously with our family, friends, and followers; however, our social media posts, emails, and text messages are often lost or forgotten as the next wave of posts, emails, or text messages comes in.
For this reason, and many others, I value printed photography. Printed photographs once adorned our homes, office walls and desks, and wallets. We shared our photos and the stories behind them, not by typing out a post, but through personal interaction with others. We built connections and relationships through these personal interactions.

This photo of Sean was taken during his senior photo session at First Landing State Park, and is perhaps one of my favorite photos. Sean wanted to show off his gymnastics prowess in one of his favorite spots, and working together we managed to create this amazing shot.

This behind-the-scene (BTS) photo was taken by Sean's mother during the shot. We absolutely love this shot and am extremely appreciative of her sharing it.

Recent Gallery Exhibitions
Mark's photography has been displayed in local and international galleries as parts of various shows. Mark's favorite though, is the photo below which was displayed as part of the "Dramatic Black & White" Exhibition at the Laurent Gallery in Australia. The photo documents his son playing in a puddle in the rain and splashing into the standing water when he falls. It's moments like these that Mark strives to creatively capture through his photography.
